PONTEFRACT LIZARD RESCUE

Pontefract Lizard Rescue is dedicated to the care and health of reptilian species.   Our primary aim is to rescue unwanted reptiles with the objective of re homing them with suitable recipients, providing a link between the two. After a short break the rescue is now back open

iguanas02Why we rescue lizards
.

Lizards are unwanted for all sorts of reasons, maybe you are moving to a private rented property, the pet shop where you bought your lizard said, “it will grow to the size of the tank”. This happens a lot with Iguanas.  Maybe the lizard is ill and wont feed or you’ve found out that the lizard has been hurt in some way. Maybe your just fed up with your lizard- because this does happen sometimes. Your lizard may have a disability, your work commitments may take up most of your day. Whatever the reason you need to give up a lizard, it’s the lizard’s welfare we are interested in and as such all rescues are completely confidential. No matter what the reason is behind the lizards being  brought to us we shall care for your lizard to our up most ability.

Rehoming

When a lizard is collected or rescued we quarantine it for 3 months and then decide if it can be re-homed based on it’s nature and condition of health. To ensure each reptile is given the best possible chance we vet all prospective adopters closely and visit their homes to ensure they have suitable premises and  how much knowledge they have gained in caring for their chosen creature.  Most information can be gained from books that we lone out and care sheets, which the adopters keep. Only if the adopters are suitable will we consider allowing adoption as the welfare of the lizard comes first.  Sometimes we have lizards that cannot ever be re-homed so they stay in our care permanently.

Donations & Funding

Pontefract Lizard Rescue is a non profit organisation.  We have no government funding but have a small gecko-breeding program that will someday fund the society completely. Until then we rely totally on donations from the public. Not only is money is needed to buy food and medical supplies but used accessories are also wanted.  Please click here to make a donation or contact us with any accessories
